So you know, by name at least, the usual suspects of the so-called “Social Stack”…

Tim is a Project Director at af83, working on the social and low-fi Web. He was formerly a consultant for the Nasdaq Stock Market, a freelance Internet escape artist extraordinaire and a Google Summer of Code selectee. He graduated from the National Institute of Sciences in Lyon with a M.S. in Telecommunications and currently sits on the Cap Digital board for Ethics in Information Processing. Drupal 7 Status Update and Next Steps

Angela "webchick" Byron is the Drupal 7 core maintainer, a Lullabot, co-author of the O'Reilly book Using Drupal, and recipient of the Google-O'Reilly Open 2008 Source Award for Best Contributor. She got her start as a Google Summer of Code student in 2005 and since then has completely immersed herself in the Drupal community.

Long a selling point for Drupal, robust categorization and tagging of content is receiving a long overdue overhaul in Drupal 7. Meanwhile, contributed modules continue to be added and improved that leverage taxonomy for displaying, searching, filtering, sorting, and recommending content– and for connecting your site to other sites and classification methods.

Ironically, the plethora of contributed taxonomy modules are as poorly organized and hard to keep track of as any set of Drupal projects. We'll help you make sense of it all.

This new generation of Geo tools goes beyond placing pins on a map: you can collect complex and relevant data for legislative lookups, distance searches, and making your information more relevant to users. Open Atrium is an opensource team intranet built using Drupal core, contributed modules and some custom 'glue' modules. I'll share the evolution of Atrium's development and talk about what lessons we've learned in developing this product using Drupal. How we identified needs and managed development of critical modules like notifications and casetracker, and when and why we began to develop new modules like spaces and features. Additionally I'll talk about the decentralized features model that has emerged from to Atrium development.

She is well known in the Drupal community not only for her technical knowledge, but also for her engaging and humorous means of bringing Drupal to a wider audience—such as the Drupal socks and their GPLed pattern. The Media Revolution launched with NCSA Mosaic has been underway for 16 years and I have been a front line advocate for the web and social computing throughout. I believe that "the great restructuring" underway requires us to think more holistically about how to think about how people and organizations are using Drupal. We need to bring a new perspective to Drupal development in order that it can serve the greatest good. I also believe the answer really is "42" so perhaps I am living in a bit of fantasy.

Chris Heuer launched his first interactive agency, Guru Communications, out of South Beach, Florida in 1994. He has since helped numerous start-ups with go-to market strategies, product design, web site development, online marketing campaigns, e-commerce and what is now widely referred to as Social Media. Chris formed Social Media Club in March, 2006 to educate professionals on the greater significance of what it means to be social and how media production/consumption has changed. To this end, Social Media Club has local groups around the world promoting media literacy, encouraging the sharing of lessons learned, promoting industry standards and discussing questions of ethics. More recently, Chris launched a new kind of ad-hoc consultancy appropriately called AdHocnium. Image module in core it's almost real!

The simplest things can be so hard. Drupal core has never had a way to upload an image and then output a thumbnail it. Of course there are dozens of solutions for making thumbnails in the contributed modules repository, but it will be a huge benifit to new users to have this handling out of the box. The time is at hand for making Drupal's core, default installation come with kick-ass image manipulation abilities. Come see what we've got and we're headed in Drupal 7.

Make a Module: A Hands-on Intro to Module Development

Get hands-on. Bring your laptop and build your own module as we go. (Of course, you're welcome to just listen.)

Installing and uninstalling
