The Drupal community has been working together to build tools that help collect, search and map geographically-relevant data for Drupal.

This new generation of Geo tools goes beyond placing pins on a map: you can collect complex and relevant data for legislative lookups, distance searches, and making your information more relevant to users. Through the use of open standards and a flexible framework, these new solutions can work together with other modules to provide mapping, exports and feeds to GIS servers and mashups.

Allie Micka, and her company Advantage Labs, have been longtime Drupal developers and community advocates. Their primary focus is to provide a sustainable platform for managed drupal hosting, training and community participation, and to continue to support the development of Drupal modules for Mail, CRM, Geospatial and community engagement solutions.

Web Mapping with OpenLayers and Drupal

This session will be focused on demoing the new OpenLayers Drupal module. This module can allow you to "mashup" data from many sources and display a unique map with variable styling.

OpenLayers is a free, open-source JavaScript library that provides an API for displaying an interactive map and much, much more.

Some of the topics that will be discussed or demoed:

Map presets and options for how maps behave and look.
Input with maps and data storage.
Map displays with Views
Inline map with content filters.
The OpenLayers Drupal API.

Speaker bio:

Alan Palazzolo is a Lead Developer at Trellon and a lead maintainer of the OpenLayers Drupal module. Alan is a strong believer in open source, open data, coding standards, and responsible development. He also feels that data visualization is an important topic for the analysis and communication of the growing amount of data in our world.

Speaker bio:

Andrew Larcombe is a partner in NetDojo LLP and specializes in geospatial consulting and development. He built his first geo-mashup in 1993 with a teletext receiver and a copy of AutoRoute, by 2000 was producing javascript-powered web maps and has been developing and consulting on Drupal sites for 2.5 years. Along the way he's written everything from spatial indexing libraries to desktop applications to CMS frameworks in C++, Perl, PHP and Ruby. Andrew holds a BA and MA from the University of London and is currently Vice-Chair of the BCS Geospatial SG.
