Drupal for English majors and everyone else
We'd like to explore and analyze the Drupal first-time user experience. Where does it work, where might it need to be re-examined, re-thought, and re-designed? Is it possible to design a user experience that will thrill English Majors and CS majors alike? If so, how might we tackle this problem?
We'll present one or two case studies that will sharpen our understanding of how different users approach the challenge of installing, configuring, and setting up various types of sites. Then we'll compare Drupal's first-time user experience to that of other products, and see if there are any lessons we might learn. Finally, we'll present an approach for how we might tackle this problem in Drupal 7 and beyond.
Topics will include:
* Basic UX principles to guide installation, customization, configuration
* How to help Drupal become both more simple and more powerful
* What kind of user experience would satisfy the needs of both novice (Drupal newbies and non-technical users) and advanced (experienced and technical) users?
* Can a little design thinking save the day?
Come to this panel to explore these questions, and others.
