Multi Language Search

Your session in a few words:

Session Type:
BoF
Level of expertise:

Search becomes more important - the more content a site has. Multi language search poses its own set of use cases / requirements for search. The goal of this session is to map out use cases and discuss possible solutions.

In particular, we intend to discuss multi language searching in the context of faceted search. Apache Solr is a hot topic in the Drupal community with several talks at DrupalCon.

The Apache Solr Search Integration module makes the power of the Apache Lucene / Solr search server available to Drupal.
Faceted or "guided navigation" allows site visitors to quickly find what they are looking for by narrowing or refining their query by simply clicking on the links provided as "facets".

Apachesolr is already a good search solution for English content. But it needs some work to offer the same power to other languages.

Work on improving multi language support for solr has only recently started:
* Localize apachesolr
* Add support for translated (localized) taxonomy facet blocks

Anyone who needs to be able to search content on a multi language site (not only with Solr), please join the discussion!
