New Core themes for D7 - can we make it happen?

Drupal Designers, here is your challenge:

The 'old school' themes like Bluemarine, Pushbutton et al have been successfully removed from Drupal 7 core. Hooray.
But alas, now there is a big void, and Garland has taken over completely.

Is there a chance we can get some nice themes into core for Drupal 7? All the markup cleanup, the integration of Stark and what more should make that - technically spoken - easier than ever.
But as always, someone has to step up and lead the efforts to give Drupal 7 new clothes.

Let's talk about it, if we see any chance even if the time slot is very narrow. Maybe some designers have some stuff in the drawers? Maybe some of the most beautiful contrib themes could take the leap with some serious polishing? Some examples:
